Acceptability and Feasibility of Parenting Tip Sheets: A Qualitative Study of Caregivers With Young Children in Ontario, Canada

Abstract

Introduction During the COVID‐19 pandemic, Parenting for Lifelong Health (PLH) developed freely accessible parenting tip sheets. There are few studies evaluating these tip sheets, with none in Canada. Aims This study aimed to (1) understand the experiences, practices, and challenges of parents/caregivers (caregivers) in Ontario, Canada, and (2) obtain caregiver feedback on the PLH tip sheets. Methods A qualitative descriptive methodological framework was used. Twenty‐five caregivers in Ontario, Canada, with children aged 2–6 years engaged in focus groups. Results Caregivers shared details about their parenting experiences, practices, and challenges. Caregivers indicated that they felt that the tip sheets aligned with their parenting beliefs and practices, and addressed many challenges they face. Caregivers provided feedback on the topics covered, visual design, and structure, and offered recommendations. Caregivers, including newcomer Canadians, viewed the tip sheets as acceptable, relevant, and appropriate, and reported applying the practices. Conclusion The study provides valuable insights into a community‐level approach to support positive parenting through the implementation of parenting education resources.
