Dr. Richa Chaudhary is a researcher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. She earned her PhD in chemical sciences from CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, India. Her research explores how electrochemical energy storage can be embedded directly into load-bearing materials, advancing structural batteries as deployable technologies. Working at the intersection of materials chemistry and mechanical engineering, she develops electrode-electrolyte systems, manufacturing-aware processing routes, and durability frameworks grounded in sustainability and circular economy principles. Her broader interests include recyclability, biomass valorization, and multifunctional materials for next-generation energy systems. Dr. Johanna Xu is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. She received her PhD in polymeric composite materials from Luleå University of Technology, focusing on electro-chemo-mechanical interactions in structural composite lithium-ion batteries. Her research focuses on multifunctional composite materials that combine structural performance with electrochemical energy storage, integrating materials design, manufacturing, and characterization across length scales. Her work contributes to the development of structural batteries and circular composite systems for energy-efficient engineering applications. Dr. Varun Chaudhary is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. He received his PhD from the Interdisciplinary Graduate School at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and his MTech in materials science from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Previously, he was a senior research fellow at NTU and a research scientist at the Rolls-Royce Corporate Laboratory, Singapore. His research focuses on multifunctional materials, integrating magnetism, advanced manufacturing, and data-driven design strategies. He chairs the IEEE Magnetics Society Sweden Chapter and serves on multiple editorial boards. Leif E. Asp holds the chair as professor in lightweight composite materials and structures at the Division of Computational Mechanics and Engineering Materials at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. He is also the director of Chalmers’ Area of Advance Materials Science. Dr. Asp's research group performs research on multifunctional composites, with a focus on structural battery composites, a material that can simultaneously store electrical energy and carry mechanical loads. The work comprises material development, modeling, and characterization, where the coupled electro-chemo-mechanical processes in structural battery cells are studied.
