Characteristics and associated factors of insomnia in gynecological cancer patients: A cross-sectional study

Abstract

PurposeTo investigate the characteristics and associated factors of insomnia in patients with gynecological cancer.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted on 195 gynecological cancer patients with insomnia. In addition to sleep quality, general information, gynecological cancer information, concomitant symptoms and biological indicators were investigated.Results① 77.43% of patients were rated as “poor” or “very poor” in terms of sleep quality, with difficulty falling asleep being the main type of insomnia. ② The sleep quality of gynecological cancer patients was related to cancer type, cancer stage, number of chemotherapy cycles, Karnofsky Performance Status score, depression, anxiety, fatigue, pain, and follicle-stimulating hormone. ③Fatigue (OR = 9.228, CI = 2.198–38.750) and pain (OR = 5.077, CI = 1.321–19.515) were significant associated factors for the aggravation of insomnia.ConclusionGynecological cancer patients exhibit high levels of insomnia. Particular attention should be paid to patients with fatigue and pain, with interventions targeting reduction in sleep latency. Clarifying insomnia characteristics and associated factors is helpful to improve sleep quality and provide evidence-based insights for clinical management of gynecological cancer.
