Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Interventions

Abstract

Hepatobiliary and pancreatic interventions include a diverse variety of procedures for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Liver biopsy is a common diagnostic procedure undertaken to obtain tissue samples for pathology. Percutaneous biliary drainage and cholecystostomy drainage decompresses the biliary system in patients not suitable for more invasive procedures. Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a therapeutic procedure used to induce selective ischemia of the tumor bed in hepatocellular carcinoma. This chapter describes the indication, contraindication, techniques, and complications of these common hepatobiliary and pancreatic procedures.
