The severity of symptoms of dyspnoea and fatigue in some people with chronic respiratory diseases may be sufficiently intense as to limit the ability to achieve optimal outcomes and relief through pulmonary rehabilitation. Additional options or adjuncts to therapy to address these symptoms have evolved in the form of music listening, singing and yoga. In addition, ready access to pulmonary rehabilitation and maintaining sufficient motivation for exercise is a challenge for people with chronic respiratory conditions. To overcome these barriers, substitute strategies have emerged with dance therapy, active video games and Tai Chi. This chapter will provide the background to these adjunctive therapies and their application in chronic respiratory diseases, and will synthesise the literature to support their use.
