An Automotive Architecture Product Line for E/E Powertrain Architectures

Abstract

For automotive powertrain E/E architectures, as well as automotive architectures in general, the challenge of providing viewpoints for the architecture arises when multiple variants of the architecture are considered. A separate model must be created for each variant, making it a time-consuming task as the number of variants increase. This paper presents an initial effort towards facilitating the creation of a safety viewpoint to address hazard analysis concerns, for automotive powertrain E/E architecture product lines using Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) techniques and tools. For the safety viewpoint, we picked STPA control structures as the model kind. In particular, we propose a graphical domain specific language for visualizing E/E powertrain automotive architectures, show how it can be used for creating an Architecture Product Line (APL), and briefly discuss how STPA can be streamlined for the APL.
