Nuclear specific heat and effective degrees of freedom

Abstract

The canonical specific heat of a nucleus may be calculated from the experimental states as a fun function of temperature, the latter regarded as a convenient mathematical parameter. Such plots, for a given band of states, highlight the effective degrees of freedom and distinguish between collective and single-particle modes.
