Plasma transfusion practices: A multicentre electronic audit

Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Plasma is often transfused to patients with bleeding or requiring invasive procedures and with abnormal tests of coagulation. Chart audits find half of plasma transfusions unnecessary, resulting in avoidable complications and costs.
