How authoritative texts reinforce the medical model of birth
Abstract
This study describes the experiences of midwifery clients in Ontario, Canada during the process of consultation or referral with another health professional. Thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews and document analysis highlighted the role of language and texts in shaping women's childbirth experiences. Examples of how language from two differing models of care impacted women's experiences of childbirth are examined.
