Venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in high-risk orthopedic and cancer surgery

Abstract

Orthopedic surgery and surgery for cancer are major risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE). Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can occur in up to 50% of patients after major orthopedic surgery.
