Decarburization of low carbon steel melts with CO2-O2 under vacuum

Abstract

A study was conducted to determine if CO2, rather than argon, could be used to enhance the steel decarburization rate in tank degassing conditions. It was shown that with submerged injection, the reaction area and CO2 partial pressure change as the bubble rises. As a result, the efficiency of CO2 utilization will be higher, and equilibrium at the bubble interface will be established.
