Theory of rod-coil mixtures with acid base interactions

The classical Flory theory for rod-coil mixtures is reviewed. The Flory solvent-rod-coil phase diagram shows only a small region of miscibility at high solvent concentrations. This is due to the inhibiting effect of the rods on the coil conformational entropy. This entropic barrier can be lowered by forming blends using acid base interactions. A negative parameter is introduced to the original Flory theory to model this phenomenon.
