Sensor based planning and control for open architecture machining

Abstract

This paper describes a system for sensor based planning and control in rough turning. The proposed system is presented in the framework of an open architecture controller. The strategies, relationships and interactions between subsystems of this integrated control system are outlined. The discussion here will focus on process modelling, the use of sensory data, and the subsequent planning of machining process parameters. Experimental results are presented demonstrating the operation of these system elements. Directions for further work are outlined.
