A Three-Level Indirect Space Vector Modulation Scheme for Multi-Modular Matrix Converters

Abstract

The multi-modular matrix converters (MMMCs) constructed with three-phase to single-phase matrix converter modules have emerged as a viable topology candidate for high-power applications. Due to the three-to-two module structure and elimination of dc components., modulation scheme design for the MMMCs is not straightforward at first glance. This paper presents a three-level space vector modulation (SVM) scheme based on an indirect model established for the MMMCs. Combining a current-source rectifier SVM and a three-level voltage-source inverter SVM., the presented method is able to synthesize high quality sinusoidal input/output waveforms with adjustable amplitude., frequency and power factor. The validity of the scheme is verified by simulation and experimental results.
