A Control Analysis of High-Performance Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Abstract

This paper presents a control analysis of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) designed for high-performance applications. Comparisons are made between performance-oriented HEVs and those primarily concerned with fuel economy and efficiency. In order to examine the key differences between these two classes of vehicles, a case study is carried out using a hybrid-electric racer designed and built at Illinois Institute of Technology. Different control strategies are discussed with an accompanying model, as well as simulation and experimental results to support the discussion.
