A Novel Series-Parallel Reconfigurable Hybrid Energy Storage System for Electrified Vehicles

Abstract

In electric, hybrid electric, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (EVs, HEVs, and PHEVs), the power and energy ratings of the vehicle energy storage system (ESS) have a direct impact on the vehicle performance. In this paper, the goal is to present the concept of a new hybrid energy storage system (HESS) that is capable of recombining multiple storage systems into different series, parallel, or series-parallel configurations, via power electronics and power electronic converters, to accommodate different driving modes such as standstill, acceleration, regenerative braking, high power, and low power.
