Cognitive decision making for the long-haul fiber optic communication systems

Abstract

Autonomic-computing layer of the smart systems based on a cognitive dynamic system (CDS) can be the solution for better decision making and situation understanding in non-Gaussian and nonlinear environments (NGNLE) such as long-haul nonlinear fiber optic links. The NGNLE situation understanding means deciding between certain known situations in NGNLE to understand the current condition. However, the cognitive decision-making (CDM) system inspired by the human brain decision-making should apply actions virtually to predict the outcomes of the actions based on virtual internal rewards. Here, we present the methods and results for the virtual generation of the observables. Therefore, it can be used as the subsystem in the executive of CDS.
