Numerical models in geomechanics. Proceedings of the 7th international symposium, Graz, September 1999

Abstract

These proceedings contain more than 100 papers which were selected for presentation. They reflect the current research and advances made in the application of numerical methods in geotechnical engineering. The papers are organised in the following five sections: 1. Constitutive relations for geomaterials: Formulation and verification; 2. Modelling of instabilities and strain localisation in geomaterials; 3. Numerical algorithms: Formulation and performance; 4. Modelling of transient/coupled and dynamic problems; 5. Application of numerical techniques to practical problems. Many new developments on a wide variety of topics have been reported. These topics include: Partially saturated soil; Instabilities in soil behaviour; Environmental geomechanics; Parallel computing and Applications to tunnels, embankments, slopes, foundations and anchors. A wealth of information is contained in these proceedings, which should be of interest to researchers as well as practising engineers.
