Stability properties of periodic waves for the Klein–Gordon equation with quintic nonlinearity

Abstract

In this paper we prove results of existence and orbital instability of periodic waves for the Klein–Gordon equation with quintic nonlinearity. The main tool used here is a recent computational approach in order to decide about the nonpositive spectrum of the linearized operator combined with the Grillakis, Shatah and Strauss’ stability theory.
