Liquid film migration in a Mo(Ni) bicrystal

Abstract

The liquid film migration process has been studied during the penetration of a Ni-rich liquid phase along a symmetrical 70degree(011) {011} tilt grain boundary in a Mo bicrystal at 1380 C. The experimentally determined average migration rate of the film is two orders of magnitude lower than expected from an estimate made according to coherency-strain theory. This discrepancy can be explained under the assumption that the actual film migration time is much lower than the annealing time.
