Knowledge‐Based Systems for Selecting Joining Processes

Selecting joining processes is a key issue in design, at the same level as materials or forming process selection. In order to guide the designer in this procedure, two softwares were developed. This software, complemented with informations concerning the characteristics of the industry willing to choose the joining process, provide a fully deductive approach. From this software a database of cases with their solution has been developed. This database of “reference cases” can then be used for a knowledge based system.
