A Digital Control Strategy for Brushless DC Generators

Abstract

Control of BLDC drives in four-quadrant operation has been an area of active interest. One of the main challenges in generating mode applications is to allow a wide operating range for shaft speeds. This paper proposes a digital control strategy for BLDC generators that offers low maintenance costs, requires no additional hardware and is simple enough to allow implementation on an FPGA device instead of signal processors. This control strategy can either be part of existing control scheme/code, or as an embedded control module. Simulation results are validated and backed up by experimental results.
