Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARalpha) heterodimerizes with the 9-cis-retinoic acid receptor (RXRalpha) to bind to peroxisome proliferator-response elements (PPRE) present in the upstream regions of a number of genes involved in metabolic homeostasis.
