Abstract Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia can be a serious and difficult-to- diagnose complication of heparin therapy. Serum from patients with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia can cause heparin-dependent platelet aggregation, but the low sensitivity and specificity of this test limit its clinical usefulness.
