How Stiff were their Upper Lips? Research on Late‐Victorian and Edwardian Masculinity

Abstract

Abstract There is an abundance of scholarship on middle‐class and elite masculinity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the notion of a male ‘flight from domesticity’. But there is little solid research on the working classes, and there is a need to connect contemporary prescriptions about masculinity with the actual practices of men of all classes for this era.
