Interfacial area in top blown oxygen steelmaking

Abstract

A mixing-reaction zone model to evaluate the significance of the interfacial area of the metal droplets in slag on the overall reaction rate in the furnace was developed. Preliminary evaluation using published common values of average residence time, indicate that this interfacial area determines less than 50% of the overall rate of reaction.
