Nonlinear Propagation of Ultrashort Pulses in Nonlinear Periodic Materials with Alternating Oppositely-Signed Kerr Coefficients

Abstract

We investigate nonlinear propagation of pulses in a one-dimensional nonlinear periodic structure which consists of alternating layers of nonlinear materials with Kerr coefficients opposite in sign. Our work is distinct from that on Bragg solitons in that the limiting mechanism described is preserved even as the steady-state is approached; and because the present work relies not on movement of stopband edges, but on establishment of a stopband …
