Overview

Dr. Gerry Wright, professor of biochemistry and biomedical studies, is the Executive Director of the Global Nexus School for Pandemic Prevention & Response. He is also the founder, former director, and an active member of the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research. He also holds the Michael G. DeGroote Chair in Infection and Anti-Infective Research, and a Canada Research Chair in Antibiotic Biochemistry. He is the recipient of many awards, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Scientist, a Medical Research Council of Canada Scholar, and a Killam Research Fellowship. He has chaired and served on grant panels for funding agencies in Canada, the US, and Europe and consults widely for the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors. He is the author of over 240 manuscripts and is a member of the editorial boards of several peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Wright received his BSc in Biochemistry and his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Waterloo, followed by postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School.
