Overview

Dr. Robyn Whitney is a Paediatric Epileptologist and Neurologist at McMaster Children's Hospital in the Comprehensive Paediatric Epilepsy Program since October 2020. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics and the Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program. Prior to this in 2017, Dr. Whitney was hired as a Neurologist/Epileptologist in the Division of Neurology at the Hospital for Sick Children and Assistant Professor of Paediatrics, University of Toronto. At McMaster Children's Hospital, Dr. Whitney leads the TSC Clinic which is recognized by the TSC Alliance. Dr. Whitney is the co-site lead within Project ECHO:Epilepsy across the Lifespan. She is the lead of Pediatric Neurology Grand Rounds, "Brain Hour". She is a member of the International Child Neurology Teaching Network Epilepsy Module Committee. She is also a member of the Canadian League Against Epilepsy Education Committee, as well as Program Director of the Canadian Epilepsy Teaching Network. Dr. Whitney current sits on the Pediatric Content Committee for the American Epilepsy Society (AES) and Partners Against Mortality in Epilepsy Conference (PAME) Planning Committee. Dr. Whitney sat on the ILAE Termniology and Epilepsy Syndromes Task Force (2021-2025) and is currently on the ILAE Pediatric SUDEP Task Force. Dr. Whitney was the recipent of the CLAE Young Investigator award in 2024, the CLAE Clinical Practice and Advoacy award in 2025 and received the Pediatric Neurology Teaching Award at McMaster Univeristy in 2023. In 2019, she was the recipient of the William Hawke Award for excellence in clinical teaching in the Division of Neurology at the University of Toronto.  Dr. Whitney has a clinical interest in the medical and surgical management of children with medically refractory epilepsy; particularly those with genetic developmental epileptic encephalopathies adn TSC. Dr. Whitney has a research interest in epilepsy genetics, epileptic encephalopathies, Tuberous Sclerosis Complex and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). Dr. Whitney also has an interest in medical education and teaching undergraduate medical students, residents and fellows.
