Overview
Dr. Tong is a family physician with clinical practices in emergency medicine and prison health in Kitchener-Waterloo and an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. Her research focuses on topics in faculty development and program evaluation using qualitative methods.
In collaboration with colleagues from the Department of Family Medicine and the MERIT Centre, and funded by the DFM Research Grant, she currently leads a qualitative study exploring faculty members’ experiences across the diverse clinical and teaching contexts of family medicine. Using a persona-driven vignette storytelling approach, the study captures the joys and challenges experienced by preceptors and non-clinical teachers across family medicine and enhanced skills domains, with findings informing the development of faculty support resources and programming.
Dr. Tong is currently pursuing a Master of Health Professions Education at Maastricht University, where she further develops her expertise in educational research methodology and engage with an international community of health professions education scholars.
