Luciana Macedo
Associate Professor, Rehabilitation Science

Overview

Luciana Macedo is a physiotherapist and Associate Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University. Her research focuses on the assessment and management of chronic pain with a focus on common spinal disorders. Her interest in back pain has led her to conduct studies on the impact exercise therapists have on improving back pain, how different treatment strategies work for different patient subgroups with back pain, and the underlying mechanisms of back pain and spinal disorders. She is also Academic lead of Pain and Aging jointly supported by the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging and the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Pain Research and care where she leads a program of research aimed to improve the care and assessment of pain for older adults. She is lead investigator of the Interdisciplinary Movement and Pain Research in Translational Science (IMPRinT) Lab.
