Overview
Dr. Darren de SA is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Associate Professor at McMaster University with a clinical practice focused on sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, musculoskeletal trauma, and complex knee reconstruction in both adult and pediatric patients. An internationally recognized clinician-scientist, he leads a multidisciplinary research program dedicated to advancing the care of athletic and active patients through outcomes research, surgical innovation, and evidence-based practice. He currently serves as Principal Investigator of the world's first randomized controlled surgical trial in pediatric ACL reconstruction funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
Dr. de SA holds several leadership positions across McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences, including Medical Foundation 1 Director (UGME), Program Director for Surgical Foundations (PGME), and Site Chief of Adult Surgery at McMaster University Medical Centre. He completed his Master of Business Administration at the Goodman School of Business (Brock University) and previously served as President of the Hamilton Academy of Medicine.
Recognized internationally for his academic and clinical contributions, Dr. de SA serves as an Associate Editor for leading orthopaedic journals, including JISAKOS and KSSTA, and has authored more than 240 peer-reviewed publications. He also provides orthopaedic leadership to professional sport as Associate Head Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL) and Forge FC (CPL). His work is driven by a commitment to advancing patient care, fostering collaboration, and elevating academic excellence within McMaster and the broader orthopaedic community.
