Laurie Elit

Professor, Obstetrics & Gynecology

Laurie Elit is division head of Gynecologic Oncology for the Hamilton Health Sciences Centre - Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre. She is a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her research interests focus on health services research for gynecologic cancer and precancers in Ontario and nationally. She has led clinical trials provincially on role of PET scan in locally advanced cervical cancer, fragmen in ovarian cancer and internationally on LEEP in CIN 1. Laurie's passion is Global Health. She has been privileged to work as an educator and a clinician in many settings including: Cameroon, Guyana, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Haiti, and Papua New Guinea. She was part of the EPOS Health Management team that worked with the Mongolian Ministry of Health to implement a national cervical screening program funded by the Millenium Challenge Corporation. Amongst several teaching awards, lectureships and visiting professorships, Dr. Elit has also been the recipient of the Gynecologic Oncology Canada Presidential Medal (2016), the Ontario Obstetric and Gynecology Life time Achievement awar (2019) and the Hamilton Health Sciences Centre Medical Staff Award for Humanitarianism in Community or Global Service (2019).
