Kirsten Bell
Assistant Professor, Kinesiology

Overview

Dr. Kirsten Bell strives to positively impact the lives of older adults and individuals living chronic disease (e.g., cancer, type 2 diabetes), as well as improve the accessibility of muscle health research methodologies. By blending invasive biochemical techniques and non-invasive imaging tools, her work has broad reach and extends our understanding of human physiology from the cellular level to whole-body function. Dr. Bell’s research probes the relationship between the fat we eat, body composition (where and how we store adipose tissue) and metabolic health. Her work on clinically-friendly body composition assessment is being used by physicians with uptake into medical textbooks. Dr. Bell also works to advance the emerging use of ultrasonography to capture skeletal muscle composition and metabolic quality.

Dr. Bell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology. She received a doctorate in Kinesiology (2017) from the same Department and completed a CIHR Postdoctoral Fellowship (2021) at the University of Waterloo.
