Linguistics and Languages

The Department of Linguistics & Languages at McMaster University explores the origins and functions of human language and effective methods for learning and teaching foreign languages. It offers two programs: Linguistics, which studies the scientific aspects of language, and Cognitive Science of Language, which examines how the brain enables efficient communication. The department prepares students for diverse careers and advanced studies, supported by an interdisciplinary graduate program with faculty from Humanities, Science, and Health Sciences.
