Priyanthy Weerasekera

Dr. Priyanthy Weerasekera is Professor Emeritus, and Director of PTeR, (Psychotherapy Training e-Resources), in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University. PTeR is a comprehensive psychotherapy website used internationally by academic institutions and mental health professionals. She is also the Immediate Past-Postgraduate Psychotherapy Coordinator (1993-2020). Dr. Weerasekera received international recognition for the development of the first evidence-based, competency focussed postgraduate psychotherapy program, which led to changes in psychotherapy training across the country. Many components of this program have been adopted worldwide. Both the Psychotherapy Program and PTeR have been disseminated through publications, and internationally through presentations at academic institutions, and professional meetings. Dr. Weerasekera is the recipient of several national and international educational awards for her work in resident education, psychotherapy curriculum development, and for PTeR. She continues to collaborate with colleagues in Canada and around the world to develop PTeR for an international audience.
