Giuseppe Valente
Assistant Professor, Surgery

I am an academic orthopaedic surgeon at McMaster University with a focus on education, clinical innovation, and research. I lead trauma and arthroplasty teaching, develop medical student resources, and mentor residents. My contributions have been recognized with several honours, including the Carroll A. Laurin Award for Excellence in Clinical Research from the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation (2025), the 40 Under Forty Business Achievement Award (2024), the Nigel Colterjohn Teaching Award from McMaster University’s Department of Surgery (2023), the Surgical Foundations Outstanding Lecturer Award (2023–2024), and the SJHH Award for Excellence in Education from St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (2022).

As Orthopaedic Trauma Lead Liaison and Site Chief at St. Joseph’s Hospital, I oversee clinical services and resident training. I actively contribute to research in surgical pain management and orthopaedic outcomes, supporting excellence in education, patient care, and scholarship at McMaster.
