Samuel Stafrace
Associate Professor, Radiology

Dr. Stafrace holds a faculty position as Associate Professor in Radiology at McMaster University.

He joined the team of Pediatric Radiologists at McMaster Children’s Hospital in 2022. His main areas of clinical interest are pediatric ultrasound, pediatric abdominal and pediatric MSK imaging.

A native of Malta Dr. Stafrace graduated in Medicine and Surgery (M.D.) at the University of Malta Medical School in 1999. After completing MRCP (UK) – (Internal Medicine) in 2002 he relocated to the U.K. where he underwent residency training in Radiology through the North of Scotland Radiology training scheme completing the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) in 2006. He pursued specialist training in Pediatric Radiology at the Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street and Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, both in Dublin, Republic of Ireland

Dr. Stafrace completed an MBA with distinction from Imperial College Business School, London, U.K.

His first appointment as a Consultant Radiologist was in Scotland (U.K.) based at the Aberdeen’s Royal Children's Hospital and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (2008-2014). This was followed by 8 years as part of the inaugural radiology team at Sidra Medicine, Qatar prior to joining McMaster.

His professional career has been focused on being a Pediatric radiologist, educator and administrator. Dr. Stafrace held numerous leadership positions at national and international colleges and societies; was a board member of the European Society of Pediatric Radiology (ESPR) (2008-2013) and is currently member of its Educational Committee, Abdominal task force and MSK task force.

He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2013 and a Member of the Academy of Medical Educators in 2016. He has authored numerous scientific publications and book chapters and delivered multiple presentations in national and international courses and conferences. He is an Editorial board member of Pediatric Radiology journal and served as lead editor of the book ‘Radiological Imaging of the digestive tract in infants and children’ (Springer, 2016).
