Overview

My research focusses broadly on how religion is practiced, lived, challenged, and affirmed, specifically among Jews in North America.

Currently, I am looking at the presence and impact of Torah scrolls sent to Canada from the Memorial Scrolls Trust in London, England.

The Memorial Scrolls Trust preserves and loans out the more than 1,500 Torah scrolls that were confiscated by the Nazis from Czech Jewish communities.

My past research projects have focused on confessional Jewish films, the Jewish summer camp experience, Jewish yoga, and Jewish healing groups. My doctoral and postdoctoral research focussed, respectively, on Palestinian villagers' stories of spirit possession in the West Bank and the Palestinian diaspora in Toronto.

Current research Areas: Jewish Studies, Anthropology of Religion
