Abstract
Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMP-1) is a potent inhibitor of activated matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) such as collagenase, stromelysin, and gelatinase, and thus helps to control extracellular matrix metabolism and deposition by connective tissue cells.
