Finite element analysis of practical thermoforming

Abstract

The objective of the present paper is to describe how some practical thermoforming problems can be modeled by a combination of finite element methods. For complicated shapes the authors use a finite element analysis with the thin membrane approximation. Thick sheet finite element analysis is used for determination of thickness variations near mold corners and the edges of a moving plug.
