Study of sintering in rotational molding

Abstract

The objectives of this work are to study and model the sintering behavior of polymer powders. The sintering rate was observed to be inversely proportional to the polymer viscosity. Also, it was found that for LLDPE the effect of the particle geometry (powder and cylinder) on sintering rate is not important. Experimental results were compared with Frenkel's model. Similar trends for sintering rates were observed. However, experimental and predicted results showed significant quantitative differences.
