Implications of a neoclassical dual economy model of Bangladesh.
Abstract
Utilizes a neoclassical dual economy model to assess the impact of alternate investment strategies and to examine some effects of rural-to-urban population movements. The results highlight the larger impacts on output and employment of investments in rural development relative to investments in the urban manufacturing sector and also suggest that the economic effects of migration may not be great. The relevance of these conclusions is enhanced both because they are based on a rigorous general equilibrium model of the Bangladesh economy and because parameter estimates are derived from actual Bangladeshi data.-from Authors
