Experimental Demonstration of a 2-D Dense Optical Phased Array

Abstract

We demonstrate a compact two-dimensional optical phased array that routes light on-chip using evanescent coupling between a bus waveguide and antenna elements. With this method, the integration of hundreds of antennas in a compact design space is possible. An 8×20 OPA is fabricated and achieves a steering range of 31.4°.
