A SHE-TPWM Scheme for High-Power Medium-Voltage Current Source Converters

Abstract

This paper presents a new modulation scheme for the current source converters (CSCs) referred to as selective harmonic elimination-trapezoidal pulse width modulation (SHE-TPWM), that combines the principles and retains the inherent benefits of the conventional SHE and TPWM schemes. In comparison to conventional SHE, SHE-TPWM is an on-line modulation scheme that features improved dynamic performance along with better DC current utilization, and in comparison to conventional TPWM, SHE-TPWM offers improved low-order harmonic performance. Experimental verification of these claims is provided.
