A Kinetic Study of Tank Degassing Decarburization

Abstract

Tank degassing for the production of ultra-low carbon steel relies on decarburization at argon bubbles rising through the steel, and at the interface between the steel and a highly oxidised slag. The kinetics of decarburization at the slag-metal interface was studied in a 50-kg vacuum induction furnace, and with mathematical models of the process.
