In this hands-on session, attendees will learn from Dr. Alexander Hall’s more than 10 years of experience in running science comedy events and will be empowered to find humor in their own research practices. The session will begin with an earnest call for scientists and science communication professionals to appreciate the power of comedy as both a vehicle for science communication, and as an important arena for bringing society together around important scientific topics. Following a whistle-stop tour of some of the fundamentals of writing jokes, attendees will be tasked with brainstorming ideas related to their own research, and will strut out of the session with a fully-fledged joke in-hand.
