Enhancing Noise and Vibration Performance for a Traction Squirrel Cage Induction Machine Through Rotor Design Optimization

Abstract

The squirrel cage induction machines (SCIMs) are widely employed in electric vehicles (EVs) owing to their rugged construction and cost-effectiveness in maintenance. However, the efficient performance of the SCIM largely depends on the electromagnetic design of its rotor, while also taking into account the critical aspects of noise and vibration (NV). This paper focuses on the concurrent modification of the rotor slot and bar shapes of one traction SCIM to meet the dual objectives of optimizing traction performance and fulfilling NV requirements.
