Novel single mode laser operation through transverse mode coupling in a 2-D photonic crystal

Abstract

An ultrashort $1.5\mu {\rm m}$ photonic crystal is integrated with a laser diode to give single-mode hop-free operation. Theoretical calculations confirm for the first time the role of the spatially dependent spectral response for frequency selection.
