India is using its large number of skilled professionals to conduct research and development (R&D) in the field of product development. It is being observed that a lot of the country's product development effort relies on information technology (IT), including outsourcing work by companies, such as Wipro and a number of local software companies. These companies designing, developing, and selling their own software products, while undertaking IT projects for foreign companies. Nokia has set up a design center in the country to design a large portion of parts for its mobile phone, while Microsoft, Intel, SAP, and Texas Instruments have sets up their product development centers. The country's automotive industry is the third largest in the world, due to the involvement of leading companies, such as Tata Motors and others.
